A large hand carved and shaped box in stoneware with a forest green oribe glaze, blue highlights and with a close fitting hollowed lid.
This box is formed with a technique called kurinuki. From a single block of clay the exterior form has been carved and the interior hollowed out. These have been fired in a reduced atmosphere to 1300 degrees centigrade.
During the firing process the glaze runs from the lid onto the main body fusing the lid in place. There is obvious evidence of where this was separated under the lid but this in no way detracts from the piece.
My Makers mark is stamped into the base.
Approx 175mm x 140mm x 80mm.
